Workshop on Social Science Research Methodology and Use of SPSS Software Package for Database Management and Analysis

The Departments of Population Studies & Sociology, and Extension & Career Guidance, Bharathiar University is planning to organize a four-day Workshop on Social Science Research Methodology and Use of SPSS Software Package for Database Management and Analysis during February 24-27, 2010 at the Bharathiar University campus.

Dr. N. Audinarayana and Dr. M. Jayakumar (Coordinators) and 2-3 experts in SPSS Software would extend their services to this Workshop.

 Topics Covered

  • Ontology and Epistemology of Social Science Research
  • Methodological Perspectives – Preparation of Questionnaire / Schedule

Editing and Coding of Data in the light of SPSS Spreadsheets

  • Research Tools and their application in Social Science Research
  • SPSS Software Package for Database Management and  Analysis

Participants:

The programme is beneficial for the M. Phil. and Ph. D. Scholars as well as young College/ University Teachers who are pursuing research in any Social Sciences including Sociology, Economics, Commerce, Education, Economics, Geography, Social Work, Management, Political Sciences & Public Administration and others who deal with Secondary / Survey data and analysis.

Admission:

It is proposed to admit maximum of 40 persons with a Registration Fee of Rs. 1000/- each. The participants will be encouraged to have hands on practice, at least 50% of the course time, in making use of SPSS Software for Database Management and Analysis.

How to apply:

Interested candidates may send their applications stating their background information with a Demand Draft for Rs. 1000/- drawn in the name of "The Registrar, Bharathiar University, Coimbatore" to Dr. N. Audinarayana, Prof. and Head., Dept. of Sociology & Population Studies, Bharathiar University, Coimbatore – 641 046.

Confirmation of participation of the candidates would be based on their stage of research programme (preferably preparation of tools for data collection and/or data analysis) in the case of M. Phil. and Ph. D. Students.  Those who have collected data for their M. Phil. and Ph. D. programmes can bring and have the consultation for data analysis during the Workshop.  Local hospitality and Lunch will be provided to the participants for the four days of the Workshop.

Accommodation: Those who are in need of accommodation can request the same well in advance and depending upon the availability of the same at University Campus would be provided on priority basis for which the participants have to bear the expenditure.

Denny John Commonwealth fellowship

Mr. Denny John, Life Member of IASSH, Faculty, Institute of Public Health, Bengaluru (field office in Mumbai), has been selected for the Commonwealth Scholarship 2009 for MPH (Master of Public Health) program at University of Auckland, New Zealand.
