National Workshop and grants

National Workshop: 14-15 May, at Delhi:
Development, Welfare and Research Foundation (DWARF) jointly with United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and in collaboration with United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) is organizing 2 events – (1) A National Workshop on 'Fathers and Families: Responsibilities and Challenges', a theme of this year's International Day of Families. This will take place on 14th May 2008 from 10 am to 5 pm at the UN Conference Hall, 55 Lodi Estate, New Delhi.
(2) Observance of the International Day on 15th May at Gulmohar Hall, India Habitat Centre, Lodi Road, New Delhi. This will be held from 6.30 pm to 8 pm. This event is also collaborated with Habitat World and the East West Centre (Hawaii) Alumni Association (EWCAA) Delhi Chapter.

Your contribution to the deliberations on both the days will be greatly valued. I. Consultant - Health Systems
Qualification Required for Consultant
·The consultant will have as a minimum, recognized Masters degree in social science, economics or anthropology or study in public health equivalent to an advanced degree.
He/she will have a minimum of 3-5 years of working experience in the health sector with a focus in the area of health policy and health systems.
Excellent knowledge of spoken and written English
Proficiency in English and ability to make oral and written presentations on technical issues
Should have good interpersonal and communication skills
Working knowledge of computers
Upper age limit 45 years
Should be based in Delhi and willing to travel.

Terms of Reference

Assist in all activities relating to work on health systems development and its dissemination
Conduct quantitative and qualitative studies including facilitating and supporting studies on health systems development and further identifying relevant institutions and interact with them in to achieve set objectives
Assist in organizing and conducting workshops, seminars, meetings and document the processes.
Assist in liaising with concerned technical units and departments of MOH&FW at the central and state level, with other donor agencies and development partners (UN and bilateral), NGOs and academic institutions regarding the issue of work, including collaborative work.
Assist in preparation of proposals, & technical notes, briefs and dissemination material for various purposes and at various levels.
Undertake any other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the Economic Advisor, MOH&FW, GOI
Remuneration: Subject to a maximum of Rs. 35,000 per month

Research Grant:
The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation are now accepting grant proposals for Grand Challenges Explorations. A $100 million initiative, the program intends to help scientists pursue innovative ideas for solving major global health problems. Proposals will be accepted until May 30, 2008 on the following topics: * Creating new ways to protect against infectious diseases * Creating drugs or delivery systems that limit the emergence of resistance* Creating new ways to prevent or cure HIV infection * Exploring the basis for latency in TB Initial grants will be $100,000 each, and projects showing success will have the opportunity to receive additional funding of $1 million or more.
